No matter how good you are at doing things, you must not resist from the fact that there are still a lot more to learn. The more things we learn from people who are higher than us, the more we can share to the ones who look up to us as well.

This film has got to be one of the best films I’ve ever had the chance to watch. It has equal amounts of humor, drama and values. The philosophies of Rancho is something that really struck me because I, myself, am one of those students who do studies for exams just to get high grades and forgets everything once the term ends. I wanna be more like Rancho. I want to learn because I love what is being taught. I want to succeed because I love what I am doing.
Everyone has his/her own take on art. Sometimes, a person’s way of expressing oneself is different from those around him/her. After attending a class inclined in arts, one of the best lessons one can learn is to appreciate the uniqueness of the artworks of others; no matter how different or eccentric it may seem. Art classes also provide different ways for a person to realize that each an everyone has their own creative side.
If a person is really willing to learn something, he must invest time on developing his talent through practice. One should not just try it once and give up if the turn out isn’t good enough.
Great Learning Experience
During the first term, we were asked to participate in the GLE Project. It was interesting, coming up with this video. We decided to include traditional learning through classes, learning with peers, and exploring hobbies. Checking out other videos posted by our other classmates, I realized that there are different ways on one could learn. And the best way for someone to learn may differ from another. :)
Students love incentives! When a student is about to fail a subject and a teacher gives out different ways on the students can make up for their bad grades by having them attend several seminars, the student immediately grabs the chance regardless of the topic of these talks. Most of these students listen to the talks because of the reflection required of them to pass the next meeting. I think it’s good that teachers provide different options for students to boost up their grades but sometimes students abuse this. If they know that the professors give out incentives in the end, they would be lax with their subjects knowing they can easily make up for it.
I sort of somehow feel like this sometimes, I currently have a subject wherein we are given incentives for dressing up according to the theme. I wasn’t able to study completely for the exam so I decided to just dress up according to the theme and I already gained 4 points for dressing up. It’s both good (because the professor expresses their interest in letting the students pass) and bad (because the students tend to rely on these incentives to pass).
Most of the time, students have queries they are afraid to voice out. Common reasons would be because they are not comfortable letting others hear their questions or because they are afraid to be laughed at for their questions. But for me, asking questions is important. It would not only clear out the confusion in the mind of the person who asked, but also maybe to those who wanted to ask the same question but was too shy to ask.
The article mentions 10 Reasons as to why students should not buy an iPad. I have a few insights on these 10 reasons I would share in this post. :)
#1 It’s Expensive
- iPad is indeed expensive compared to other tablets available in the market. But considering the applications that are only available in the App store, I think it is one of the main factors why people still opt to buy iPads instead of less pricey tabs.
#2 It’s Not the Best Solution for Note-Taking or Editing Documents
- In our generation, I think the use of iPad as a tool in taking down notes or editing documents is just a way for people to cope with the advancement of technology. Although I have to agree that this is not suited for everyone, mainly because of the next number.
#3 It’s Too Distracting
- Being equipped with different applications available in the App Store, there are numerous distractions that would lessen the focus of the students in listening to the lectures or instead of reading documents, would tend to tinker with games instead. Although I think it would be the same even if it isn’t an iPad; any type of tablet offers a distraction for students.
#4 It’s Ultra-Portable and Ultra-Droppable
- Again, I don’t think this is exclusively just for iPads. Most tablets come with the same size. But I have to agree that with the expensive price of iPad, the student must really be careful in handling this gadget.
#5 What Makes it Desirable to your Kid is What Makes it Desirable to Criminals
- I greatly agree with this one, especially because I, myself, is a commuter. I ride the bus when going to school and one of the greatest threats is putting out my gadgets. Sometimes I have to text someone and I’m kind of hesitant to bring my phone out, with the fear of someone snatching it. With the size of iPad, it’s hard for people with bad intentions to miss. Given the different modus operandis in the Philippines, it’s really a risk for students to use their iPads. And this is not only applicable outside the school premises, even inside the campus, someone who cannot afford to buy an iPad can have the ability to desire this gadget, too.
#6 It’s Meant for the Enjoyment of One Person, Which Means Social Seclusion
- In terms of studying, I think iPad can do a good job in providing tools for learning not just for one person but also to his peers, so I have to disagree with this one. Even in games, there are numerous game available that promote social interaction with other people.
#7 Digital Text Books are a Marvel, but There’s No Secondary Market
- There are still many references that is not available digitally. I guess with the presence of e-books and all, people are interested in trying out digital books. But because this is a new technology, not every traditional book has a digital counterpart, yet.
#8 It’s a Status Symbol, Plain and Simple
- This one I have to agree. There are only a few factors why iPad is better than other tablets. Other tablets have even better specs but because of iPad’s “name” and the status symbol of owning one, makes it the number one choice of people when buying a tablet.
#9 It’ll Already be Old Technology by the Time You Buy It
- The company Apple is best known for innovating their previous products. The moment a person has enough resources to buy an iPad, a new better version comes out. Most of the time people regret buying because there is always something new that comes out.
#10 They’ll Also Want a Laptop, Too
- Not everything can be done using a tablet. There are still a lot of powerful stuff that laptops can do better than iPads. Students would be needing laptops too, so instead of buying them an expensive tablet, why not buy them a laptop with good specs, probably of the same price too?
Well, this is just my opinion. I believe that iPads and other types of tablet can be used as a tool in engaging the students to study more or providing different methods for students to learn. But owning a gadget that can easily be turned into an entertainment medium requires a lot of self-discipline. One has to make his goals clear to be able to surpass the challenge of being too lax about their ownership of such gadgets.
My learning priorities, interests and activities at present include School/Academic related topics, personal interests such as Fashion, Music, Film & TV and Food, General Knowledge, Communication through the use of media and Faith.
I am able to use my present connections as a means to support my learning engagements because everything that I want to know more about can be accessed through the use of the Web. I am able to track my academic and extra curricular endeavors through the use of social networking sites and at the same time be in the know of the latest news among my friends.
My present educational goal is to pass all the courses I am taking and hopefully be able to use the lessons I have learned in these subjects in the future, when I am about to enter the real world. I am also hoping to one day be able to develop something that would both include my interests in Instructional Design and Fashion. I am still thinking of how this would be possible, but with the use of my current PLN, I feel like I’m already one step closer to that goal.
5 Keywords that describe my PLN: Educational, Values, Arts, Creativity, Media.
Video Games are one of the most used mediums for entertainment. It is both used by kids and adults alike. Developers are now revolutionizing the existence of these video games by incorporating topics that are part of the school’s curriculum, a different method in helping students learn. It is a big challenge for the developers and also a question for everyone if this method of teaching or imparting knowledge would be effective for our generation’s learners.
